Intergaz 2nd Memorial Forest
Intergaz, one of the young, dynamic, and eco-friendly companies in the energy sector, carried out its first social responsibility project of 2022 with a tree-planting event on Saturday, February 26, 2022. The event was held in collaboration with the Directorate of the Forestry Department, under the TRNC Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, with the aim of reforesting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, growing new trees to replace those we lost in fires, giving back to nature what we take from it, partially offsetting the carbon dioxide we produce, and providing new habitats for wildlife. Intergaz, the island's blue energy, will continue its efforts, as always, to compensate for the damage our Cyprus, known as the green island, has suffered from forest fires and to work towards a green future.
The event took place in Çamlıbel with the participation of Intergaz employees and their families. As part of greening a 2-hectare area, 2,500 pine, cypress, oleander, and acacia saplings were planted on Saturday, February 26. The Intergaz family, which values afforestation projects for the sustainability of our green island, will bring its 2nd Memorial Forest to life in Çamlıbel with its energy and will add new Memorial Forests in the future.
Making a statement on behalf of the Intergaz family, Intergaz Deputy General Manager Kader Kencer stated;
Forests are a country's lungs and its greatest source of wealth, noting that we meet hundreds of countless needs from forests, such as the pencils we use, the books we read, the notebooks we write in, the chairs we sit on, and the tables we eat at. He reiterated that our forests are natural resources we need just like air, water, and bread.
Stating that the benefits of forests, home to thousands of plant and animal species, are innumerable, Kader Kencer said; “Every forest is like an oxygen and rain factory. Countries that unconsciously consume their forests not only face desertification but also lose their most valuable asset and greatest natural wealth. It is everyone's duty to protect forests. We must ensure new forests are formed by planting trees. The greatest enemy of forests is humans. It is a human who can burn an entire forest to ashes with a tossed cigarette butt or an unattended fire. Today, we are here with our children as the Intergaz Family to at least partially compensate for the damage humans inflict on nature. We also want to extend our thanks to the Director of the Forestry Department, Cemil Karzaoğlu, and his team for providing us with this opportunity. I greet everyone who contributed to this beautiful and meaningful event with respect and love,” expressing his feelings, thoughts, and wishes.
