Breast Cancer Awareness Efforts Continue
The awareness activities organized by Intergaz Ltd in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, along with the pink gas cylinders we offer specially for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, are ongoing. The entire proceeds from our pink gas cylinders, which will be on sale throughout October, will be transferred to the Ministry of Health's efforts related to breast cancer awareness. In this context, Minister of Health Ali Pilli also attended the Breast Cancer awareness event held on Thursday, October 17, 2019, at the Nicosia Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital Thalassemia Center Conference Hall. Pilli pointed out that breast cancer is the primary disease threatening women and stated that with early diagnosis, this disease can be one hundred percent preventable. Pilli said, “The most effective method in fighting cancer is early diagnosis. When a woman sees the color pink, she should remember when she last had a breast check-up and must get checked at regular intervals.” Stating that individuals should perform self-examinations at regular intervals and immediately consult a healthcare institution if they have any suspicions, Minister Pilli explained that treatment is definitive in very early stages. Expressing that the purpose of the organized events is to encourage regular check-ups for early diagnosis, Pilli noted that the awareness activities will continue throughout October and that the Ministry will continue to support these events. Following Minister Pilli, Eastern Mediterranean University Faculty of Medicine faculty member Prof. Dr. Nahide Gökçora provided information about the symptoms and treatment of breast cancer. Also touching upon many topics commonly misunderstood by the public, Gökçora emphasized the importance of early diagnosis with her words: “Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women. The success rate of treatments applied after early diagnosis of breast cancer is 95%-98%. We must understand the importance of early diagnosis. I invite every woman to get herself and the women around her examined.” Following Eastern Mediterranean University Faculty of Medicine faculty member Prof. Dr. Nahide Gökçora, Asst. Prof. Dr. Bülent Sezgin, in his conference on awareness, explained in detail how women should perform self-examinations. Stating that women should definitely perform a self-examination one day each month, Sezgin explained the methods for a woman to check herself in the fight against breast cancer and the important points to pay attention to during a self-examination.
